OUR COACHES

Pam Thorburn

"I have always loved Sport. I knew from an early age I wanted to become an athlete. My love of skiing came from my parents and it developed from there. I started when I was 3 and never wanted to stop. I left school at 16 to become a full time Ski Racer on the British National team and became British Champion in various disciplines and age groups.

In my career, I made multiple Olympic Criteria’s and became the only British woman to compete on the World Cup circuit in the 2 different sports of Alpine skiing and Ski Cross and among only a couple of people in the World to do so.

Over the years, I had a variety of coaches. I soon realised how much difference a good coach makes. As my career transitioned from athlete to Coach I always kept this in mind. I love working with people to reach their goals, and working on myself to become the best coach I can be. "

CLIFTON HELD

At a young age I was already sport crazy. Football, rugby, basketball, athletics, swimming, judo you name it I tried it. At a certain point I chose football as my main sport to vent my energie.

To this day I like to challenge myself and others to explore their strengths and improve not only physically but also mentally through coaching.

I coached some “hardcore” bootcamp classes (HIIT) which now I translate into the Power Hour classes at The Bar.

I love the energy, love the people, love the game!

Dave D

"My name is Dave, back in high school I was the typical lazy gaming teenager, who drank liters of soda and ate multiple bags of crisps a week. After realising that needed to change I (like a lot of us) went to the local gym.

I realised  quickly thát wasnt my thing as well I turnt to CrossFit back in 2016 and became the enthousiast (read: addict) I am now!

After a complete break with the past I tried to develop myself in becoming a person that could offer the same kind of help to others, as I needed back when I was looking for help. I was asked to come and coach at my local box in 2018, the same year I competed in my first (amateur) CrossFit competition. And now, four years later, multiple courses, competitions & Opens I'm proud that I can say I'm part of the team here at The Bar.

I live by the words 'practice what you preach' and would love to help you on your journey on the road to fitness!"

"About ten years ago I was on a mission to finally lose the weight I'd gained during college, so I started running and doing weight training in regular gyms. This was something completely different from the teamsports I was used to doing, and even though I started seeing results, I missed the social side of sports, which is exactly what I love about CrossFit.

To me, working out is about getting the results you want and being able to clear your mind in a comfortable and fun environment; and that's exactly what I hope to bring you as a coach. "

"When I was 7, I started dancing… a lot. By the time I was 13 I was at boarding school training to be a professional dancer for 25-40 hours a week. My entire life revolved around improvement in this sport.

When I was 18 I made the incredibly hard decision to stop dancing. It was both mentally and physically not the life for me.

I had to put all that left over energy into something else; so I started running. I ran almost every day for 4 years. Sometimes over a 100km a week. I ran until I was able to run a half marathon comfortably without much effort.

When I wanted to run faster I discovered strength training and joined a gym. My 5K time improved from 27min comfortably to 23min in just a couple of months but I still wanted more.

Then I was introduced to Functional Fitness. The perfect combination I was looking for. An individual sport in a group setting to feed my competitive side. Which included strength training, technique, speed, but most of all progression metrics 🤩

I have been active and involved in sports my entire life. I’ve lived the life of an athlete from a very young age and it taught me to be disciplined in the work and careful with intense movement. It shaped me.

I’m therefore excited to take all that knowledge and all the things I’ve learned and share it with you guys.

See you on Thursdays ✌🏼"
